"Changed My Mind"

I find it my place to tell you when I change my mind about a product that I have panned in the past as not as advertised. There are two such as this currently. Advantage which is for fleas and Frontline which is for fleas and ticks. I will caution you that there are still animals who are very sensitive to these products but I have seem results on animals I never thought I would. The main reason is that the product works when the owners don’t. It helps aid in stopping the flea infestation in their homes and yards. It is easy and generally safe for most animals. You only have to apply once a month and try to remember when to do it next. The companies do aid in that, as they put a sticker in the package for you to mark the calendar with, The secret is having a calendar and putting the sticker on it. Oh! And yes, remembering what the sticker is for and using the product. Also you need to remember to wait 2 days before applying after a bath. The best method I have found is to apply small spots about two inches apart. You start at the neck and work towards the tail. Don’t use to much and make sure you have enough to reach that small cavity just above where the tail joins the body. It is the fleas favorite spot. Why am I telling you this? Because there is a new product on the market called Control. It is manufactured by Hartz. Walmart is selling it for less than the cost of either Advantage or Frontline. Why? Because it is not as effective as the originals and by the time you realize this you have already spent at least one-half of what the good stuff would have cost you. Now I am all for saving a buck or two [no I do not use 1-800-whatever] but when you look at the big picture and realize that it is only going to empty your pocketbook and not kill the intended pests it hurts. Oh! It might kill a flea or two maybe even three but it will not work as well as the originals because it only has enough chemical in it to be called a flea product. We have gone over this before. You get what you pay for!! Not all products are created equal. Especially flea and tick products. Remember that even though you have put flea and tick killer products on your favorite friend you still need to do a few things to help it along. [1] Empty vacuum cleaner bag .....weekly.. suck up a teaspoonful of any type flea powder [even Hartz] into the new bag. This will keep you from re-infecting your house. [2] All animals in the household need to be treated. [3] Treat the yard. Remember to let it dry before allowing pets and children back on the grass. [4] Check the calendar for stickers!
